Three Female MPs Take Oath In Bahraini Parliament


MANAMA : Pakistan Dunya News reports that, Three Bahraini women took oath as parliament members on Sunday during the opening session of the National Assembly chaired by King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa.
“We wish to congratulate the Bahraini women who have proven their aptitudes to compete for, and win, the honor of serving this nation and participating in the nation’s building process and in the reforms,” the king said while addressing the opening session at the Shaikh Isa Cultural Hall.
The three women, Somaya Al-Jowder, Ebtisam Hijris and Sawsan Taqawi, who were elected last month as parliament members in the parliamentary by-elections, took oath along with another 15 new members at a ceremony attended by members of the royal family and senior officials.
They joined the country’s first elected female MP since 2006 Latifa Al-Gaoud in the parliament.
This is Bahrain’s first parliament session after the political unrest that started in February.
