NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma defensive end Frank Alexander will wear the No. 12 jersey against No. 5 Florida State on Saturday night as part of Oklahoma's weekly tribute to the late linebacker Austin Box.
The top-ranked Sooners (1-0) are having a different defensive player wear Box's old jersey number each week this season. Linebacker Tom Wort was chosen for the season opener against Tulsa. OU announced Friday on Twitter that Alexander is the second one who will wear the number.
Box died in May of an overdose of painkillers. He would have been a senior this season and was in line to be Sooners' starting middle linebacker.
